WEEK 7:Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge THEORY

A theory that was developed to explain the set of knowledge that teachers need to teach their students a subject, teach effectively, and use technology is presented this week by Mam Gallardo which is called with an acronym T.PA.C.K. by Dr Matthew Khoeler.

The TPACK model gives us a new framework for the integration of technology in education and how we can structure our classrooms to provide the best educational experience for students while incorporating technology.

According to the TPACK framework, specific technological tools (hardware, software, applications, associated information literacy practices, etc.) are best used to instruct and guide students toward a better, more robust understanding of the subject matter. The three types of knowledge – TK, PK, and CK – are thus combined and recombined in various ways within the TPACK framework. Technological pedagogical knowledge (TPK) describes relationships and interactions between technological tools and specific pedagogical practices, while pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) describes the same between pedagogical practices and specific learning objectives; finally, technological content knowledge (TCK) describes relationships and intersections among technologies and learning objectives. These triangulated areas then constitute TPACK, which considers the relationships among all three areas and acknowledges that educators are acting within this complex space.

This lesson can help us to better use the technology in collaboration of traditional ones for a better performance of teaching in the near future.

WEEK 6: READY, SET, ACT :)

In connection to last week lesson which is Edgar Dale’s cone of experiences, we are divided into groups by our professor and gave task to perform an act presenting the assigned level. For our groups presentation, the assigned level to play is Motion Pictures. We’ve decided to portrayed a scenario where Television and other electronic media devices put a role in the learning of a day care student which is being portrayed by Rica with the her teacher Maureen. I’ll be the one who’ll act like i am inside the television portraying different educational channel shows like Dora the explorer, Arts and Crafts channel and etc. I feel pressured about my role given the fact that we dont totally set things cleared before we presented our act but thanks god that we delivered it well.

This activity help us to understand more about the lesson and we found it entertainment and learning at the same time.

WEEK 5: EDGAR DALE’S: CONE OF EXPERIENCES

For this week lesson, Mam Gallardo introduced Edgar Dale with his model called ” Cone of Intelligence” .

Dale’s Cone of Experience is a visual model that is composed of eleven (11) stages starting from concrete experiences at the bottom of the cone then it becomes more and more abstract as it reach the peak of the cone. Also, according to Dale, the arrangement in the cone is not based on its difficulty but rather based on abstraction and on the number of senses involved. The experiences in each stages can be mixed and are interrelated that fosters more meaningful learning.

According to one of the principles in the selection and use of teaching strategies, the more senses that are involved in learning, the more and the better the learning will be but it does not mean that concrete experience is the only effective experience that educators should use in transferring knowledge to the learner. Like what was mentioned above, the experiences in each stages can be mixed and are interrelated thus, a balance must be achieved between concrete and abstract experiences in order to cater the and address all the need of the learner in all the domains of development and in order to help each learner in their holistic development.

In the end of this lesson, i therefore realized and apply what Confucius once said “I see and i forget,I hear and i remember, I do and i understand”.

WEEK FOUR: EDUCATIONAL APP AND STORY WRITING

This week presented a lot of applications that can help us as a student specially a future English teacher. Each and everyone downloaded application which they think that is useful in learning. Some presented different English grammar apps, LET reviewer (advanced thinkers haha) and Grammar Games where entertainment through the used of games turns to learning.

The application that i had bring is not new but a helpful one which is Merriam Webster. The thing that made me present is the games behind this dictionary. It also records the words you’ve recently searched up to the last 25 words. Games included here are ” How Strong is your vocabulary?” (divided into four categories: light, medium hard, devilish) , “True or False” (divided into two stages : light and difficult) and “Name That Thing” (which is also divided into two: light and difficult)

Meanwhile, the favorite application above all of the presented applications of us is English Grammar. Simply because it can help me to easily understand the different topics we may encounter in our major subjects.

This week also teach us how to make a story flow of a girl named Lyn G. Wistica that is leaded by our professor and followed by 41 of us.

WEEK 3: PRESENTATIONS

As we’ve discussed the boon and bane of technologies, each group presented the positive and negative side of technology. Technology brought us to a better life but everything must be in control. It is a beautiful disaster that makes our life becomes more easier than we think. Imagine in just one click, we don’t have to go in the library just to look for a place, word and works we want to read about. But bare in our mind that reading books is much better than using gadgets.

The word “boon” stands to something pleasant or helpful while ” bane” stands the negative side of technology. All the groups presented well their ideas and it brings me to the conclusion how powerful the technology is in our everyday life but books, teacher with their chalks are so much more powerful than it.

WEEK TWO : GROUP CREATIVITY

Some sort of activities and a busy schedule of our professor resulted for her not being around for this week but she wanted us to unleashed our creativeness leaving an activity to our class president.

We wish to finished our task on time but two hours is not enough for us and feel sorry to our professor but at least we’ve tried. After the brainstorming of our group, each of us assigned to explain further the given answers we wrote with a video presentation.

The assigned number for me to explain is number two which is to indicate words related to Educational Technology which are:

  • Educational Applications – such as Merriam Webster etc.
  • E- learning- the form of learning we’ve gain through using of electronic devices/ media.
  • Social networking sites- in order for us to spread knowledge, ideas, opinions with relevancy and truthfulness.
  • Online courses- studying through online schools.
  • Electronic Media
  • Internet connection
  • Google or Google Scholars
  • Modern Devices

The second video is me with Cristine, Jessa and Molly Anne trying to explain our poster with a caption “THE CHALK IS THE QUEEN AND KING OF THE INVENTED TECHNOLOGY”

At the end of this week, we’ve realized how important the role of the teacher is in everyday routine of changing ideas inside the classroom. With a stand that technology, as a beautiful disaster can never be replaced the teacher.

ANOTHER SEM TO START :)

Adjustments to a new beginning with my classmates is about to start together with new year. After a long and worth waiting vacation, late night sleeps changed by early wake ups every morning. Usage of mobile gadgets should once again be minimize. Learning and lessons are ready so we should be ready too.

I miss to bond with my lovely classmates and feel glad every time they say that i’ve gained weight hahahaha πŸ™‚ It’s the fruit of Christmas and New Year foods. Scenarios of introduction of self happened followed by activity gave by our professor which is to present a tableau depicting different school regulations we know. We are divided into four groups and each group present well the regulations they know.

PLANNING WITH GROUPMATES
VANDALISM

A very well spent week to this subject and the eagerness to learn more in this subject (technology for teaching and learning) arose from each and everyone of us.
